To have or not to have kids at your wedding...that may be your question.
Either way, it's okay. You are allowed to make this choice! Regardless of what you decide, here are a few things to keep in mind.
Yes, I want kids at my wedding...
For many couples weddings are a family affair which means having kids at the event seems only natural. It may also be difficult to exclude kids if you are having a morning or afternoon wedding. If you are inviting kids of all ages, here are a few tips to keep in mind:
Yes and No
Here is where things get a little tricky. Some couples want to include some kids but not others. It may be that you are only inviting the children of family members and not friends. Or you may have a cut off age, let's say 13 and older only. Or you may decide to only have the children in your wedding party invited to the reception but not other children in your family. Whatever you decide, be consistent and clear so that parents don't feel like you are excluding only their kids. You will end up with family and friends with hurt feelings.
Nope, no kids at our wedding...
Adult only events are sometimes expected for very formal or evening weddings. I personally think of these types of events as a gift to me. (As a mom, that's how I view it.) I love my kids, but when they were younger, having a night off to enjoy my husband and my friends was a great treat for me. If you decide on not having kids, then make it clear from the beginning to give parents time to make plans.
There's one caveat to all of this. If you are having a destination wedding, you will likely exclude families if you make the event adult only.
Are you finding it difficult to make the call to have kids or not? Are you getting any slack from family and friends for making your event an adult only wedding? Tell me in the comments.
As always, I wish you very #HappyWedding planning.
